8.9. Heating of the cold diesel engine – the device of a preliminary warming upAccording to practical experience, at cold start-up diesel engines hard leave only at the first stage. Engines with direct injection, such as in Mondeo, at our widths are started even in the winter still "politely", however at a severe frost they work hard, their first signs of a life entirely without the device of a preliminary warming up can not be shown.
For this purpose powerful candles накаливания in start-up of the cold engine heat up compressed air in cylinders and accelerate thereby ignition process. Candles накаливания settle down sideways in a head of the block of cylinders, they are, as well as a control lamp of a preliminary warming up on a guard of devices, under the supervision of the engine management block (РСМ). For definition of duration of warming up РСМ receives in a warming up from the temperature gauge of a head of the block of cylinders (СНТ) a temperature signal. The more low temperature, the more intensively the period of an initial warming up: the maximum duration of a warming up makes 8 seconds, in the assumption that average temperatures–20 °С dominate. At engine temperature from above 80 °С the warming up device is completely disconnected.
As soon as the cold engine starts moving, the period of an additional warming up of candles накаливания begins. It improves character of idling and minimises issue of hydrocarbon after cold start-up. The maximum duration of this period makes 30 seconds at–20 °С or still smaller external temperatures. At engine temperatures from above 50 °С this period is not carried out, as well as at frequencies of rotation of the engine over 2500 rpm is extends service life of candles накаливания.
Each cylinder is warmed up by a separate candle: candles накаливания Mondeo have very compact design – they work without own regulation of temperature. It is not a lack as soaked up fresh air does not allow candles to burn down – the maximum temperature here is limited nearby 1050 °С.
